One beautiful Minnesota fall afternoon many years ago I wearily rode my bike along the orange, yellow, and rust leaf littered River Road path to my first yoga class thinking 'What am I doing? I am way too tired and busy for this and need to create lesson plans for tomorrow!' and almost went back home to my couch, coffee, and laptop. This was after a long day of teaching 170 students about foods and nutrition, and I was completely tapped out mentally and physically. Thankfully I stayed for the whole class, because afterwards I felt radiant, energized, connected and recharged. I have learned that if I thought I was too busy to practice yoga and mindfulness - I needed it most!
Fast forward a few years after that first class, and I was practicing prenatal yoga with Shiva Rea on DVD and then baby yoga from Baby Om by Laura Staton and Sarah Perron with each of my three babies. After that I relished Roxanne Currie's beautiful Good Medicine DVD because she gifted me with short practices and meditations during my young children's nap times. I've spent about 20 years practicing yoga in person and (mostly) online and have experienced incredible positive impacts that have ebbed out to my family and to everyone around me. Being able to return to an online yoga practice has been the most valuable for me in the past few pandemic years, but also as a mom caring for and cheering on three young active athletes (who attend three different schools) and musicians. Practicing mini, portable yoga and mindfulness sessions were some of my most restorative habits that enabled me to have the energy to keep going.
I learned the importance of accessibility not only through supporting learners during the pandemic but also while being home caring for children. A couple birthdays ago I took action on a wish that I had been thinking about for many years - to share short and powerful, online practices so that other people who might not be able (or desire) to attend yoga classes could feel better and more grounded. After completing my first yoga teacher training, I earned certification and registration with Yoga Alliance.
I am also a certified kids yoga teacher, have two Master of Education degrees, am a licensed foods and nutrition and foods for fitness instructor, Modern Classroom Mentor, and USSF soccer referee. I am passionate about helping people practice mental and physical flexibility and fitness every single day. I design sequences and mindful meditations to energize and restore beginners, advanced practitioners, and everyone in between and want you to feel your best every day. These practices are for all people, cued for safe alignment, and are meant to be customized to honor all body shapes. I hope that you feel restored, connected, replenished, and inspired by my yoga and mindfulness practices. I'm here to be your accountability partner and support you on your journey in wellness. I want my students to know that they have the power to transform themselves. And you don't have to do it alone. I'm here as support!
